When Learning Feels Hard
When Learning Feels Hard: It’s Not About Your Ability One of the most discouraging moments in language learning is when something just doesn’t “stick.” You hear a word several times, but you can’t remember it. You try to understand what your tutor is saying, but it feels confusing. You start to wonder: “Am I just not good at this?” Let’s be very clear: this is not a problem with your ability. If you are able to communicate in your first language —if you can understand, respo

Which GPA Phase?
Last month I completed a GPA certification program where my table coach was the Director of a GPA Center in Delhi . This blog is an adaptation of her post, used with her permission. It was so well written, that I wanted Elevate Bangla learners to have a chance to benefit! GPA stands for the Growing Participator Approach and is an attitude and approach to growing as a participator in another langua-cultural world through an increasing number of deep relationships.

Adding words to your mental "iceberg"
The Language Iceberg: Why "Forgetting" is Part of Learning Experts in language development often compare our mental lexicon —the internal dictionary of words we know—to an iceberg. The Two Layers of Vocabulary The Tip of the Iceberg (Above Water): These are the words we have fully mastered – the surface-level fluency we use for daily social interactions (ordering coffee, chatting with friends). The Base (Submerged): This is the "invisible" part—the deep, conceptual, and ac

Like an ant crawling up a flight of stairs
When I joined Elevate, the President of Elevate Training shared a folder of stock photos with me that illustrate the concept of "elevate" in some way. "You can pick any of these to use for your business cards, website, etc" he told me. I was immediately drawn to the staircase because it reminds me of my favorite analogy for language learning (which those who have been learning Bangla with me have no doubt already heard!). It goes like this: Learning a new language as an ad
